6:00 PM  –  8:00 PM

Join the Chicago Council for the AWM and Shermin Kruse as she reads from her novel, Butterfly Stitching. The reading will be followed by a discussion regarding foreign policy issues. All proceeds from this fundraiser event will support the AWM's education programs, such as the Write In Program.

Shermin Kruse is a partner at the law firm of Barack Ferrazzano, a TEDx speaker, an accomplished negotiator, facilitator, and mediator, the author of the critically acclaimed, best-selling novel Butterfly Stitching, an Emerging Leader fellow at the Chicago Counsel on Global Affairs, a director of the ACLU of Illinois, co-founder and director of the peace organization, Pasfarda Arts and Culture Exchange, a director of the international refugee center RefuShe, a contributor to Fete Lifestyle Magazine and a former contributor to the Huffington Post, a member of the Chicago Council for the American Writers Museum, and a mother of four children ages 6 and under. Kruse, who spent her childhood in Iran dodging rockets and the morality police, immigrated with her family carrying little more than a few suitcases. Post immigration, Kruse graduated cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School and rose in the ranks of the professional world. In addition to her fiction writing and journalism, Kruse is a frequent speaker and writer on issues relating to human rights, racial diversity, cross-cultural dialogue and negotiation, and women in leadership. Kruse’s commitment to equal rights, professional development, and peace-dialogue is international. From traveling to the Turkey-Syria border to interface with Syrian refugee children to serving as a commentator on NPR’s Worldview on foreign policy issues, Kruse is globally dedicated to raising awareness. Kruse was recently named by the International Women Associates as the recipient of the 2018 Woman Extraordinaire Award (announcement coming shortly), by BizWomen Magazine as one of the nation’s top 100 “Women to Watch,” by Chicago Business Journal as one of Chicago’s most influential women, and by Today’s Chicago Magazine as one of Chicago’s Women of Inspiration.
